As the only place that inherited Phallicism in the East Sea coastal region, Haesindang Park features the Fishing Village Folk Museum, hilarious phallic sculpture park, and others. Haesindang Park with its pine tree-lined promenade blending well with the blue Sinnam Sea offers visitors the ultimate relaxation; it has emerged as the best tourist attraction in the East Sea region.
Once upon a time, there lived a young lad and a young lass who were engaged. One day, He took his boat out to sea to harvest seaweed. He promised to returned to the beach to pick her up later. All of sudden, a very strong gale blew, and waves were crashing in, and she drowned to death. Since then, the villagers caught no fish, and there were rumblings that it was because of the dead girl. One day, a fisherman could not catch fish and took a pee into the sea. Afterward, he had a large catch. Since then, the villagers made wooden carvings of penises on the 15th day of the New Year (lunar calendar) to soothe the spirit of the dead girl. Today, the villagers still make and hang wood carvings of penises on the 15th day of the lunar New Year and on the 5th day of October on the lunar calendar and hold religious ceremonies.
